The Road Tear

McCarthy's perilous novel, The Road, expresses the demise that the father in this story goes through to protect himself and his son. Through this demise the meaning of the book to show how something good can be made from a bad situation can be seen.
"...That the boy was all that stood between him and death."(McCarthy 29) The well-being of his son was his light in the darkness, just making sure he was safe was the top priority on his list. His love for his son and the fire will to to keep both of them alive was all he cared about. To relate back to the theme that love was the good in this bad situation, the man managed to keep his son alive with the love he had for him.
The boy continuously believes the man is lying to him about whether their going to die or not. The man doesn't accept that to be an option. No matter what the circumstances seem to be, the man assures the son that there is a chance at survival. This is shown in the statement by the man, "Okay this is what the good guys do. They keep trying. They don't give up."(McCarthy 98) He's trying to get his son to trust that good guys don't lie, they always try hard to do whats best, and to assure him that he is a good guy.
Even though the man and the son are going through the trouble that their in, he assures to see the good in this situation. With the love he has he proves that he will do his best to protect him and his son. His love for his son is the light in this time of darkness.
